Emergency and Disaster Management
On any given day, Alberta Transportation may be called upon to respond to an emergency or disaster situation. Emergency Management consists of:
- Emergency and Disaster Plans
Development of ministry emergency management plans. Maintaining existing plans through reviews, updates, and revisions that reflect organizational and transportation sector growth and change. Facilitating the development of working relationships and agreements with federal, provincial, municipal, and non-government agencies in the area of emergency management.
As part of our departmentís emergency management training strategy, ministry staff are trained in the Incident Command System, basic and transportation-specific emergency management courses and business continuity.
Leading the design, implementation, and reporting of disaster and emergency exercises. These exercises test the departmentís emergency and business continuity plans, our facilities and equipment, as well as train departmental employees. All relevant agencies and stakeholders participate as required in exercises, which can be branch, departmental, regional or provincial in scope.
Working through Albertaís emergency management framework Alberta Transportation is ready to respond to any situation that has an impact on the provincial transportation system or the delivery of ministry essential services and functions.
